Organization Accomplishments
Participants in SHCDP have experienced numerous
achievements, including increased self-esteem, increased respect for adult
guidance and authority, recognition of the importance of community service,
improved report card grades, increased involvement in school activities
and leadership roles in and out of school, enhanced critical thinking
skills, and improved social interaction with peers and adults. These accomplishments
are summarized in the following outcomes:
- 40% of the students enrolled in A-STEP
in grades 1-8 are consistently on the academic honor roll.
- 35% of A-STEP participants showed
improvement in the areas of reading and mathematics as indicated by
report card data received in June 2006.
- Less than 10% of program participants
receive failing grades in reading or math.
- 75% of our participants have attended
our programs for two years or more.
- 70% of the participants in the YEP
(Youth Employment Program) were involved in one of our other programs
as elementary/middle school students.
- 75% of the participants in the YEP
are on the academic honor roll.
- 100% of the twelfth grade participants
in YEP during both our 05-06 and 06-07 now attend or are preparing to
attend institutions of higher education.
- 50% of the students in our preschool
program attend A-STEP and SEP once they enter kindergarten.
- 60% of A-STEP participants in grades
3, 5 and 8 who took the 2006 PSSA are proficient or advanced in math
and 65% are proficient in reading (higher percentages than school district
averages).
